Family Fun Night

boy-990325_960_720Nothing is better than setting some time aside to have a special night with your loved ones. Many couples practice a date night so they can have some much needed time alone to reconnect with each other. It is just as important to set a time aside to reconnect as a family. Strengthening your existing bond and building relationship is important and an ongoing task. Your children are only young once and, this time, is special and you will need to make lasting memories. It can be once a week or once a month; whatever works best for your family. Each family fun night you will pick a different unique theme; this keeps everything fresh and interesting. There are so many themes out there and your imagination is the limit.

How about hosting a Mexican Fiesta? Just the word fiesta sounds like a party and a great time. What’s fantastic about this theme is that it is colorful and there are plenty of different arts and crafts to decorate for a fiesta. It is also pretty easy to plan and a great first one to have. As you get your feet wet you can wear your favorite pair of painted boots!

The first thing you will need to get this fiesta started is some decorations. You can use streams and balloons around the house. Orange and red come to mind but any different bold color will work. Use a color scheme that your family will enjoy. If you have a Mexican blanket place it as a table cloth. You can have a sombrero or a bundle of peppers as a centerpiece.

You will want to have some food for your fiesta. One of the easiest things to make would be a taco bar, plus kids love being able to build their own tacos. Just place out some containers of tortillas, meat, cheese, tomato, onions, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, taco sauce and cilantro. You can add or take away any ingredient that fits your family the best. Another great option is nachos; they are a great finger food. If you want more of a sit-down meal you can have enchiladas, quesadillas, refried beans, Mexican rice and black bean soup.

After you get done enjoying your food fare, enjoy some Mexican inspired games or arts and crafts. Use your centerpiece in a game of hot potato or play pin the tail on the donkey. You can draw and paint your own donkey to add more creativity. Also don’t forget the piñata; every great fiesta has a piñata. All you need to make one is a: balloon, four, water, tissue paper, newspaper strips, and paint or markers. It is easy to make and you can fill it with anything you want your children to have. Use the extra tissue paper to make some colorful Mexican flowers. Paint a pair of boots or shoes as a cactus or piñata. If your children want to paint their favorite activity of the night they will have something to remind them of this special Mexican Fiesta night. Remember the possibilities are endless!
