I Love MyDesign Paint Your Own Boots Review

paintable_zimbi_boots04My daughter’s eyes lit up when I opened the package that arrived with a pair of design-your-own rainboots, a set of paints, and a stencil sheet. When I told her that we received these MyDesign boots from I Love MyDesign in exchange for a review and honest opinion of what we thought, she was very excited to get started helping me discover what the DIY for kids boots were all about.

In the MyDesign travel painting case box was:

  • a pair of white unique natural rubber boots, in my child’s size
  • six water colors of black, white, blue, red, yellow, and green
  • a pack of 32 magical erasing pads
  • two paint brushes
  • and a mixing palette that was shaped like a foot with toes.

So cute!

We also received a stencil sheet that had re-stickable stencil tapes of butterflies and flowers.

The first thing we noticed was the quality of the box the boots arrive in. It was colorful cardboard with four little rubbery mini boot cutouts to cushion the box during travel. On the side of the box were several color-mixing suggestions to create any color you need using the colors included inside.

I sat down with my 8-year-old daughter and set up the workstation, which was our kitchen counter. She was so excited to get started that we first stuck all of the stencils on the boot before reading that it works best if you paint a base coat first. No worries, though, because the stickers came right off ready to be reused. She then painted the boots blue and waited for them to dry before using the stencils. It worked out well, and I was surprised how easy it was to restick the stencils again and again.

After the paint had dried, we wiped the boots clean with the magical erasing pads. And, we were amazed at how it truly seemed to magically erase all of the paint without much effort. But, before I wiped the boots clean, I was curious to see how paint that can be wiped clean so easily would hold up in the weather elements of rain or snow. So, I ran them under the faucet and rubbed on them, and stomped them into a puddle of water. Guess what? The paint stuck. But, when I used the erasing pads, that same paint wiped right off like magic.

My daughter also asked if she could try them on to make sure they fit. Of course, I said that would be a great idea! What we didn’t expect was how comfortable they were. She didn’t want to take them off. These are not the same kind of rain boots I had as a child – The kind that slipped over my shoes, and shoes got stuck inside, or the kind that I couldn’t wait to kick off. These boots were actually soft and comfortable when worn.

One thing I should mention is that my daughter is a huge elephant lover. So, of course, the next time
we painted the boots, we had to incorporate an elephant design. She painted the base gray, and I attempted to outline an elephant with black lines. The important thing is that she loved the end results even if mama’s artistic skills are lacking somewhat, and if you paint a design that isn’t to your liking, it’s just as easy to wipe clean and start fresh as many times as you want.

The bottom line is that we were very happy with the MyDesign boots from I Love MyDesign. We have spent hours of quality mother/daughter bonding time together designing and painting these boots, and then wiping them clean to start over. With holidays or birthdays around the corner, these boots need to be on every child’s list. The paintable boots also served as an art class for us, since we school at home. The idea is brilliant, and the hands-on experience is a memory to cherish and enjoy.
